Mary Poppins – Tap & Jazz Workshop

Saturdays, January 21 – March 18
2:30 – 4:30 PM

To prepare for the upcoming musical, Mary Poppins, Albuquerque Little Theatre is proud to present an eight-week workshop in tap and jazz dance. Age range: 10 +

Each workshop will begin with a warm up focusing on strengthening, stretching, and conditioning the body (the warm up will last between 20-30 minutes). The remaining time will be broken up evenly between tap and jazz. The tap section will focus on teaching and developing basic/ beginner tap vocabulary. Students will learn, standard time steps, riffs, drawbacks, cramp rolls, and maxi fords, among many others. The first four to five weeks of the workshop will focus primarily on learning basic steps and vocabulary. The second half of the workshop will focus on learning choreography from Mary Poppins.

The Jazz portion of the workshop will look at developing basic to intermediate jazz steps/vocabulary. The class will focus on building flexibility, musicality, and performance. The first 4-5 weeks we will work on developing technique (turns, kicks, leaps, and more!), and the second half will be devoted to learning choreography from the show.

Tap and jazz shoes are highly recommended! Movement for actors

Mondays, January 23 – March 27th
5:00 – 6:00PM

In preparation for the musical, Mary Poppins, Albuquerque Little Theatre is proud to present a ten week workshop entitled: Movement for the Actor. This ten week workshop will take place on Mondays from 5:00-6:00pm. The workshop begins on Monday, January 23rd and runs through Monday March 27th.

The Movement for Actors workshop is designed for the actor to develop their main tool: the body. This class will draw upon the ideals of physical theatre, dance, and mime in order to facilitate one’s expression using their body. We will also look at character and scene studies in order to translate that character into the body of the actor. This class is designed for those with a limited knowledge of physical theatre and dance; as well as those who are not quite comfortable taking a dance class. We will be moving each week, so please dress comfortably with appropriate shoes (tennis shoes will more than suffice). For those with any injury, do not fear, as everything in this class can be modified to fit your needs.

Fee: All Classes: $90.00
5 Classes: $45.00
Drop in rate: $10.00 per class
