Final Weekend ~ NOISES OFF!

By Michael Frayn

Directed by Henry Avery

Called the funniest farce ever written, NOISES OFF! presents a manic menagerie as a cast of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called “Nothing’s On.” The play takes a fond look at the follies of theatre folk, whose susceptibility to out-of-control egos, memory loss and passionate affairs turn every performance into a high-risk adventure. This comedy-within-a-comedy captures a touring theatre troupe’s production of “Nothing’s On” in three stages: dress rehearsal, the opening performance, and a performance toward the end of the run. Each performance is portrayed from behind the scenes, progressing from flubbed lines and missed cues in the dress rehearsal to mounting friction between cast members in the final performance. Brimming with slapstick comedy, NOISES OFF! is a backstage farce of slamming doors, falling trousers and flying sardines!

FINAL WEEKEND: Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic, THE KING AND I

Music by Richard Rodgers; Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
Based on Anna and the King by Margaret Landon

Directed by Nancy Sellin
Musical Direction by Cheryl Sharps
Choreography by Peter Bennett

East versus West makes for a dramatic, richly-textured and ultimately uplifting tale of enormous fascination. It is 1862 in Siam when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The King is largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the West, and he seeks Anna’s assistance in changing his image, if not his ways. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love story.
