Albuquerque Little Theatre Announces an Additional Performance of HAIRSPRAY, Dedicated to Albuquerque’s First Responders
Albuquerque, NM – June 6, 2011 – Albuquerque Little Theatre (ALT) announces an additional performance of Hairspray the musical, for Thursday, June 9 at 8pm. The added performance, called “Heroes Night,” will be dedicated to first responders in the Albuquerque metro area. By showing a work ID, first responders can receive a $5 discount off all adult tickets for Heroes Night. A pre-show reception is also included with ticket purchase.
“Hairspray has been such a success that we had to add an additional show to accommodate the demand for tickets,” said ALT Executive Director Henry Avery. “We felt the additional show was the perfect opportunity to say thank you to the police departments, fire departments, and all first responders who work so hard to keep the metro area a safe and healthy place to live. We hope they will come enjoy a fun night out with ALT.”
Hairspray delights audiences by sweeping them away to 1960s Baltimore, where the 50s are out – and change is in the air. Loveable plus-size heroine, Tracy Turnblad, has a passion for dancing, and wins a spot on the local TV dance program, “The Corny Collins Show.” Overnight she finds herself transformed from outsider to teen celebrity. Can a larger-than-life adolescent manage to vanquish the program’s reigning princess, integrate the television show, and find true love (singing and dancing all the while, of course!) without mussing her hair?
Hairspray is a community project in which a team of more than 50 volunteers come together nightly to produce an award-winning musical. Public performances of Hairspray began May 20 and continue through June 12; Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:00pm; Sunday at 2:00pm – at the Albuquerque Little Theatre, 224 San Pasquale SW, Albuquerque, NM 87104.
Admission is $24 for Adults, $20 for Seniors, $18 for Students, and $10 for Children. Group discounts of up to 25% are available for parties of 10 or more. Purchase advance tickets by phone at (505) 242-4750, or online at http://www.albuquerquelittletheatre.org.
