Classes for Kids
ALT Acting Classes Ages 4-17
Play Actors (ages 4-6)
The very best learning is done while playing. Play Actors, taught by Kathryn Morales and Kate Murphy Sanchez, is a wonderful introduction to the joy of acting. Join us to play games, act out stories, make new friends, use our imaginations and have fun!
Session 1: August 23 – September 27, Saturday mornings from 9:30-10:30AM ~ $60
Session 2: October 11 – November 22 (no class on November 8), Saturday mornings from 9:30-10:30
Play Builders (ages 7-10)
Our most popular educational offering is back! You’ll create your very own character, discuss plot ideas, and have your character incorporated into an original script by our resident playwright. You’ll learn theater basics as you rehearse the play and prepare for a showcase on ALT’s historic stage. Directed by Kathryn Morales and Kate Murphy Sanchez.
August 23-Nov 8 , Saturdays from 10:45-noon in the rehearsal hall. ~ $160.
Showcase is on Saturday morning , Nov. 8 at 10:30AM. Attendance during the showcase date is mandatory. Please do not sign your child up for this class if he or she will not be able to participate in the showcase.
Play Builders (ages 11-15)
Our ever-popular Play Builders class, but for kids who are a little older! In addition to creating your own characters and generating plot points for the original script through improv exercises, you’ll also write and share a monologue. Directed by Kathryn Morales and Kate Murphy Sanchez.
August 23-Nov 8, Saturdays from 12:30-2PM in the rehearsal hall. ~ $175
Showcase is on Saturday afternoon , Nov. 8 at 1:30pm. Attendance during the showcase date is mandatory. Please do not sign your child up for this class if he or she will not be able to participate in the showcase.
Beginning Playwriting (Ages 10 and up)
Do you love to write? Do you love the theatre? Why not combine the two, learn some new things, and make friends all at the same time? Join our resident playwright, Kate Murphy Sanchez, for this fun and interesting introduction to the world of dramatic writing. You’ll create characters, generate story ideas, and work in small groups to create short scripts to be showcased in a staged reading on the last day of class.
September 6-October 25 (No class on October 11), Saturdays from 2:30-3:30 in the rehearsal hall at ALT. $75.
*Albuquerque Little Theatre Academy for Young Actors is pleased to announce a new program* *for Middle and High School Students beginning this Fall at ALT!*
Come join us for this exciting and challenging class which will include a series of fun acting games and improvisations to stretch your imagination and improve your acting skills. You will learn how to use your body and voice to create a character, to relate to other characters and to express yourself on stage. Each exercise will build upon another so that, eventually, you will have a full range of interesting ways to work on a character, ultimately leading to work on scenes and plays.
You will need: casual, comfortable clothes (jeans, stretch pants, T shirts) and shoes (sneakers/shoes that do not slip off your feet) that you can move in. (No skirts, no heels).
The instructor for this class will be Nancy Sellin who has worked as a professional actress, director and teacher for over 30 years. She has acted and directed in New York (Broadway/Off Broadway) and regional theatres throughout the country. She taught acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City for seven years. She has taught acting at public schools in New York City and in Rio Rancho. She was mentored by Tony Award winner and master teacher, Rae Allen, and is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (NY).
